Fossil Fish

Next stop was four hours North in Kemmerer Wyoming.
This time we were looking for 50 million year old fossilized fish.

50 million years ago this area had been a fresh water lake. When a volcano erupted it killed millions of fish and preserved them.

We spent the morning and found many good specimens.

These are some of our findings.

Here are some of the more amazing specimens on show in a local store.  They cost as much as $50,000 each.

  1. Hi Izzy, Nerhys and Caiden,

We can see you are missing school. You are all having a wonderful experience. The year 7/8's are off skiing tomorrow, a contrast to Utah in September. Will show your blog to the class on Thursday.
    Regards

  3. Hi everyone
Wow, your trip looks amazing so far. A lot warmer than here at the moment too. It's great to see all your pictures of the places you have visited. A bit different from home. The fossils look amazing and it's hard to believe they actually lived so many years ago but are still around today.
Keep up the good work everyone.
